Why do you stay?

I had the honor to moderate an amazing panel focused on the theme of “Why do you stay?”

We discussed: 

What makes an employee feel included?

What is the biggest reason an employee has stayed on a team?

What are the best qualities of a leader and how a leader can get the best out of their teams?

These questions and responses during the panel made me realize that it is no longer focused around how much one gets paid; it is much more than that. Consistent responses were examples of how one felt respected, empowered by their leadership, supportive team members, company vision and a clear career path.

Below are 3 actions that you and your leadership team can do to become more aware of how you can keep people in their role, on your team or at the company.

  1. Ask everyone on your team “ Are you happy or fulfilled in your current role? Depending on the response, this will help you outline the right plan to help them be more successful.

  2. Think about what your role is for your team. Make it a safe space to let everyone have the opportunity to speak up and contribute their ideas.

  3. Allow your team to be authentic in how they show up in their work.
